Sensitivity and Mechanisms of Toxicity in Different Species
We acknowledge the diversity of life and strive to decode how various species, including both lab animals and wildlife, respond to toxic substances. Our research aims to carefully study how these chemicals interact with biological pathways, such as how they bind to receptors in the body, to understand their species-specific effects.
Developing Better Ways to Predict Toxic Effects and Assess Risk
Our lab uses both lab-based (in vitro) and computer-based (in silico) methods to quickly and accurately identify potential chemical hazards to organisms. We analyze data from broad experiments and create models that help us predict risk in a reliable manner.
Studying Biological Pathways (Adverse Outcome Pathway, AOP)
Our research includes using the AOP approach, a modern method to gain insights into how harmful substances affect living systems. We connect the dots from the initial molecular events triggered by these substances to the actual adverse outcomes, focusing on predicting how biological systems respond to these interactions.
Creating Alternative Methods for Testing Toxicity
We are leaders in developing new ways to test for toxicity that could one day replace the need for animal testing. Our work also involves tailor-making risk assessment methods that are suitable for different types of living organisms, aiming to contribute to the conservation of wildlife and the global ecosystem.
